He was one of the founding directors and shareholders of FSBM Holdings Berhad. He was appointed as its Managing Director since February 1984 when the Company commenced business as disributor of Fujitsu computers in Malaysia.
Dato’ Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) degree from University of London in 1973. He has over 49 years of experience in Information and Communication Technology (“ICT”).
Prior to the founding of the Company, he had served in several large corporations including IBM World Trade Corporation, Exxon Production Malaysia Incorporation, HRM Sdn Bhd and Business Computers Sdn. Bhd.
Some of his notable projects undertaken over the years included:
• Installation and maintenance of seven (7) Fujitsu mainframe computers in Telekom Malaysia, making it one of the largest Fujitsu installations outside Japan and Australia
• Installation and maintenance of some 80,000 RDSLAM ports across the country for Telekom Malaysia
• As consortium leader for the Project Monitoring System under the e-Government Flagship
• As lead System Integrator for the City Control and Command Centre aimed at making Cyberjaya an intelligent city
• As lead technology partner for one of the 4 consortia entrusted to train 500,000 teachers in United Kingdom on how to apply ICT in classroom teaching
• Re-development of the UK programme to suit the Malaysian school curriculum and training of 100,000 Malaysian teachers
• Development of the Science subjects for Lower and Upper Sixth and the Matriculation under PPSMI program
